How To Get To Elk Lake Resort 

NOTE: Elk Lake Camp, Elk Lake Lodge, and Elk Lake Resort are all the SAME place. Some signs are just historic remainders from our past.

DIRECTIONS

FROM INTERSTATE 15 OR INTERSTATE 90

From Interstate 15 Heading NORTH from Idaho Falls or SOUTH from Interstate 90, take Exit 0 at Monida, Montana (Sign marks turnoff for Red Rock Lakes Wildlife Refuge). Follow signs through Monida (a nearly abandoned town) toward the Red Rock Lakes National Wildlife Refuge and Lakeview. Travel approximately 37 miles east through the Centennial Valley on an improved (partially graveled) dirt road to Elk Lake Road. Take a left (there is a sign at the junction marking the turnoff to Elk Lake Resort) and follow the road another 5 miles to Elk Lake Resort. Total drive time = about 1 1/4 hours.

FROM INTERSTATE 20

From Highway 20 Heading NORTH from Idaho Falls or SOUTH from West Yellowstone follow US 20 to just about milepost 398. Turn WEST onto Red Rock Road (signs mark the turnoff to Lakeview and Red Rock RV Park). Follow Red Rock Road about 6 miles. It will turn to gravel. Take a LEFT onto Red Rock Road (notice sign for Elk Lake Resort and Red Rocks Wildlife Refuge). Follow the gravel road up over Red Rock Pass and into the Centennial Valley - you will travel about 11 miles from your last turn. Take a right at Elk Lake Road (our sign clearly identifies this turnoff) and follow the road another 5 miles to Elk Lake Resort. Total drive time from Hwy 20 turn off = about 1 hour.

FROM ENNIS, MT

From Ennis, Montana take Hwy 287 SOUTH to the junction with Hwy 87. Turn SOUTH and follow Hwy 87 into Montana. Continue about 5 miles past the Idaho / Montana State Line. Turn south (right) at the Sawtell historical marker (sign also identifies this as the turnoff for Red Rock Lakes National Wildlife Refuge). Follow the paved road around the west shore of Henry's Lake for approximately 5 miles (it will turn to gravel). After a sharp left turn, cross a PAVED bridge and turn RIGHT onto Red Rock Road (gravel road - note our large sign at this junction). Stay on this road up over Red Rock Pass and into the Centennial Valley - you will travel about 13 miles from the end of the pavement. Take a right at Elk Lake Road (another large sign clearly identifies this turnoff) and follow the road another 5 miles to Elk Lake Resort. Total drive time from when you leave Hwy 87 = about 1 hour.

GETTING TO THE AREA:

Whether you choose to drive, hire a shuttle, or fly into our area, we have information to help: The closest airports are Bozeman, MT (to the north) or Idaho Falls, ID, to the south. Both are about 2 1/2 hours drive from Elk Lake Resort. Salt Lake City, UT offers a larger airport located about 5 1/2 hours from Elk Lake Resort. Limited suummertime flights are available into West Yellowstone, MT (about 1 1/2 hours from Elk Lake Resort).

Delta and Alaska Airlines both offer flights into Bozeman and Idaho Falls. In addition, Northwest and United service the Bozeman airport, the seventh busiest airport in the northwest!

 

Should you chose to fly into Salt Lake City, UT, you can either rent a car or use the Salt Lake Express Shuttle into our area. The shuttle runs daily, even in the winter.

Car rentals are available at both the Bozeman, MT airport and the Idaho Falls, ID airport. You can also rent a car in West Yellowstone, MT.
