Don't! In tune with our purely natural theme, you can enjoy an auto tour into Montana's back country as part of your vacation package
Because of the vastness of the countryside, many of our guests enjoy doing a little traveling in the area and increasing their adventures via the comfort of their (or our) car. You can sit back, relax, and let us do the driving as part of our Experience Montana Package or you can explore on your own. Either way, our back yard is worth the trip!
The Gravelly Range is unique in that you can drive up into the 'heart' of the mountains. Explore places like "Wolverine Basin". Drive past the base of "Cave Mountain". Revel in the sheer beauty of "Lion Mountain". Climb the heights of "Black Butte" and reach an elevation higher than the Centennial Mountain's highest point.
An even bigger secret than the Centennial Valley, the Gravelly Range offers you an opportunity to get into the mountains without the hassle usually associated with this much of a 'backcountry' experience. This mountain range divides Montana's little known Centennial Valley and its well-known Madison Valley. You can access these mountinas from either valley. Don't miss the rare opportunity to explore high mountain valleys and even higher mountain peaks from the comfort of an automobile.
Go to the base of several breathtaking peaks. Walk among carpets of vibrant wildflowers. Enjoy breathtaking vistas. View elusive wildlife - all in one long loop.
The Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest has done an exceptional job building and maintaining a decent road system which allows visitors access - even in a car with good clearance. Open from July 1st until the snow flies, this loop is a 'must see' for those who seek 'out-of-the-way' destinations.
Lest you think this is only a 'summer' sport, the Gravelly Range is known for its exceptional powder snow, vast untracked spaces, and incredible scenery. Consider visiting this countryside in the winter.
